140 Acres of Park Land Transfers to City of Bainbridge Island
By Admin
From the Kitsap Sun:
Bainbridge City Council voted to transfer nearly 140 acres of open space parkland to the Bainbridge park district on Wednesday, capping a sometimes contentious five-year negotiation process.
The largest and most prominent of the properties is Pritchard Park, a 50-acre stretch of Eagle Harbor’s south shore. The park includes woods, trails, a sandy beach, a Japanese-American internment memorial and the contaminated Wyckoff Superfund site. Already co-owned by the park district, the transfer provides for full ownership and will allow the district to begin making basic improvements, including directional signs, dog-waste stations and toilets.
The Superfund site will remain a restricted area while the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency cleans up contaminants left over from the Wyckoff wood treatment facility.
Other properties include 30 acres that make up part of the former Meigs farm along Highway 305; the forested, 32-acre Nute’s Pond property on Toe Jam Hill Road; the historic Fort Ward Parade Grounds; and the Schel-Chelb estuary in Lynwood Center.

From the Kitsap Sun:
PORT ORCHARD — By the end of the year, Kitsap County will have a comprehensive trail plan outlining routes for walkers, cyclists, and even equestrians from the south end of the county to trails already approved for North Kitsap. The trail system would include direct routes between Kitsap’s cities and unincorporated population centers to make it safe for bicyclists to get to and from work, as well as routes that spur off from the main connector trails to link to parks and recreational areas.

Jody Kahn at John Burns Real Estate Consulting filed this report based on interviews with construction executives. In essence it boils down to saying that difficulties with getting VA appraisals to come in at value are affecting many new construction home sales. This reflects the overall problems in the construction industry, the inability of home builders to compete on price with distressed property sales and a resale market that is still falling in price. Our experience in residential resale is that buyers of well priced homes are able to get VA financing.
