Bainbridge Island to Retain Current City Manager

City Council members credit Brenda Bauer with pulling the city from the brink of financial ruin, yet the council was sharply divided on whether to remove the “interim” status from her title as city manager.

The council approved Bauer’s permanent status as the city’s chief executive on Wednesday, but only on a 4-3 vote and after reciting a list of things she should have done better.

There has been some criticism of the City Manager for events that have not gone well.

Yet, it was under Bauer’s watch that the Winslow Way reconstruction project fell more than a month behind schedule and the Strawberry Plant Park restoration failed to meet the council’s expectations, Lester said.

Bauer has also not done enough to ingratiate herself with the community, council members said.
