Olympic College to Receive $3.3 million in Grants

By Admin

From the Kitsap Sun:

OC received a $102,000 state grant as part of a group of colleges working to create programs to benefit Washington’s aerospace industry. OC will use curriculum developed at Shoreline Community College.

OC faculty also will expand upon a composites manufacturing program that launched this summer. That program began as part of a partnership with a private company and was funded by a federal grant.

A new grant from the federal government — expected to total $2 million over three years and also awarded as part of a group effort among roughly a dozen state colleges — will help expand that into a composites, electronics and advanced manufacturing program.

OC expects the program to reach about 300 students over a four-year period, said OC’s Director of Grants Sharon Kline.

Grants for both programs will be used, in part, to purchase large pieces of machinery and other equipment and materials, Cline said.
