Proposed $230 Million Prison Reception Center for Bremerton

By Admin

Kitsap Sun Reports - The center would house inmates for four to six weeks, after they are sentenced and before they are taken to permanent prison facilities. The state’s current reception center is in Shelton at a site originally built to be a permanent prison.

The proposed Bremerton site is about 50 acres at the south end of the South Kitsap Industrial Area on property owned by the Overton family. The facility would house as many as 1,024 inmates and employ about 500, including corrections officers, health care workers and other staff.
